The Jaycee Dugard story makes you think. Her neighbors were aware they were living there in some strange fashion. The entire community knew this Garrido was a freak and a pervert. What in the world happened that this man was able to rape and torture a young woman outside of his home in the open air for 18 years? Complacency. What happened that his parole officer never took the time to check the inside of his home and listen to his crazy ranting? Complacency and sloth. How could the police who were called to investigate him never took the time to question him at any length about what was going on in his home. Complacency and ineptitude. Look around we see it every day in people doing their jobs and living in their community. It is the sad state of the world.
