Who Holds the Power in Fashion?
I was wondering who the top dogs in fashion are and I am going to present a series of the different types of positions with influence on the Fashion Industry. Right now I can’t tell you how long or short it will be but to promise it will be only as long or short as is needed to cover the subject. This first article is about the heads of the magazines that have a role in fashion coverage.
Vogue- has been a leader in fashion for many years. It is one of the first to do solid reporting on the industry and have excellent pictures and articles. That critical subscription number is consistently high they are held in high regard. The editor is Anna Wintour and they are ranked number one.
The number two spot goes to Cindi Leive of Glamour magazine. She was number one last year but has slipped a notch. Their website kicks it at a 1.3 million unique visitors a year. They are also increasing their circulation at a 1.5% increase all ready in 2009.
Three is always the tough spot and taking their place there is Robbie Myers of Elle magazine. They have made some great deals with cable shows like The Hills. The website is doing well with 2 million visitors in July that is up 83% from a year ago.
Four is not the loneliest number as Lesley Jane Seymour brings it with More magazine. This is the first time they made the list and show that an older audience can be a solid one. Aimed at women in their 40’s to 50’s they are making strong gains and picking up solid advertising.
Once you reach Five it gets a little dicey. Linda Wells heads up Allure magazine and they are building a strong web following with an increase of 117% in unique visitors. However, they don’t compare to the competition in the top Five as their total visitors only reached 336,932 in July 2009. They do have a great fashion directory that has been getting rave reviews.
So that is the top five in the industry for magazine and online web media. They are all strong women who are out to dominate in Fashion News. My favorite is Glamour and I was disappointed to see them slip in the Forbes analysis so jump on it girls go check out their website glamour.com.
