The Mini Skirt is 50 years old this year and they are holding a special celebration of that fashion statement made in the 1960s. Mary Quant is one of three fashion designers who claim credit for designing the Mini but the hem lines had started to get shorter after the 1950’s. Two other designers who claim the creation are John Bates and Andre Courreges. Never the less popular as it was it was viewed as having liberated women from the long skirt. Mary Quant actually thought that women running for a bus would be interested in the design. So, Happy Birthday Mini Skirt!
